Thunder Work

Thunder reading the MRI images.

Hello Cool Cats,

It’s me again, your student teaching bear, Thunder! I spent the day with Mr. Canlapan and learned about operating the MRI machine. Have any of you had to have an MRI before? I know Mrs. Crosby did! Read below for a little info about Mr. Canlapan’s job.

I work in a Colorado Springs hospital as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technologist. I operate the machine in obtaining patient’s MRI images. My job served diverse patients from infants to seniors in the community. This type of technology is very important in diagnosing or finding different types of diseases. MRI scans are performed on brains, neck, back, knees, liver, and many more body parts. MRI can now be used to see inside the brain and how it functions.

I’m off to my next job!

Lightning and Mr. Roberts

Lightning and Mr. Roberts

Good Morning Lightning! My name is Mr. Roberson and I am a senior executive at W.J. Bradley Mortgage Capital.  We are so happy to have you join us today.  We hope you enjoy your intern experience.

Lightning, my job is to run a group we call Shared Services.  It’s the group that helps everyone else in the company get their jobs done.  At WJB, we provide a service to Americans who want to realize the dream of owning a home.  We loan people money, so they can own a home.  We are located in Centennial, CO, just south of Denver proper.  We have many loan officers across the nation trying to meet the people who need help buying a home.  We all spend time with people in the community helping them understand what we do and why we do it better than anyone else.  Our job helps others own homes and it gives them peace of mind that they can achieve the dreams they have for their life and their families.  If our job did not exist, it would be very difficult for most people to buy and own a home.  We believe it is important to serve others.  We value Integrity, Service and Commitment and we always put others before self.

Getting ready for the day.

Getting ready for the day.

Wow, I’m finally unpacked and ready for a very busy day.  I have a number of conference calls and several meetings.  My computer is hooked up and I am ready to go.  I can’t wait to learn more about Shared Services and how I can serve people who are trying to buy a house to live in.

In the meeting room.

What a long day…

I’m the last one here in the building and we helped a lot of people today.  I’m so happy we have companies like WJ Bradley.  It’s nice to help people realize their dream of home ownership.  I have to go now. It’s time for me to learn about someone else’s job.  Thank you WJ Bradley!  Thank you Mr. Roberson!

Lightning’s First Job is in Construction

Hello Cool Cats, it’s Lightning!
I am so happy to be back assisting Mrs. Crosby in teaching you about Communities. I spent this internship with Ava’s dad at his construction firm. I learned so much. Please read the answers to our questions below for more information.

Lightning checks out the office.

My name is Gabe Godwin, I’m Ava’s Dad.  I’m President of Colorado Structures Inc., a General Contractor, with our Headquarters in Colorado Springs.

We provide construction services to clients like Sprouts, Home Depot, Lowes, and other Developers that need buildings built.

My job is mainly in the city, we build buildings in 18 western states including Alaska and Hawaii.  I have to travel to a lot of different states where we are building.

We are involved in each community we have offices in, which are Irvine, CA., Portland, OR., and Colorado Springs, CO.  We are involved in the local communities by volunteering and donating to local charities.  We also are involved with the Cities building officials because we work together to get pieces of land approved to build on, they also inspect and approve the buildings we build.

We support the local communities by building and developing buildings for clients that provide goods and services, for example grocery stores, hardware stores, doctor offices.

If there were no one to build buildings, the local communities would have no buildings for people to go and buy goods and services.  We also retro fit and remodel old buildings, if we did not do this, there would be a lot of old buildings that would not be safe.

Attached are pictures of Lightning working at my desk, taking a copy of herself and reading plans at our plan table.

Thank you, it was a pleasure working with Lightning, please let me know if you need anything else.

Hello Cool Cats!

Thunder at Lockheed Martin

Thunder at Lockheed Martin

Baer asked me to take Thunder to work and take some pictures with him.  So, here’s the set of pictures with Thunder.  Since I was the picture taker, there are no pictures with me.

You’ll see pictures of Thunder with my boss, my admin, co-workers, the “cube country” where my team sits and in my office.  As a Program Manager at Lockheed Martin, when Lockheed Martin signs a contract with a customer, I’m responsible for execution of that contract to deliver the goods and/or services over a specific period of time within a given budget of money.  I’m responsible for communicating with the customer, managing their expectations and ensuring my team’s work will meet the terms and timeline of the contract.

Thank you,
Mr. Bergmier and Thunder

Thunder T. Bear is Back! He Meets a Dentist

Posted in Located in City, Provides a Service | No Comments »

Hello Cool Cats! It has been a long year waiting for another chance to do an internship with one of our parents. I was so excited to get assigned to Dr. Allan, a Dentist in our community. During my day with him, I conducted an interview. I hope these answers help you understand why Dentist’s are an important part of our community.

What is your job?

Thunder Bear gets a checkup at Dr. Allan's Office.

I’m a general dentist.

Do you provide goods or a service?
I am a health care provider who helps people keep their mouths healthy and free of disease.

Is your job located in the city, suburbs or rural community?
My office is located in the city.

How do you interact with other members of our community in your job duties?
I serve on a local dental board which helps patients and other member dentists.  Not only do I help patients in my office, but I also help provide care to some patients who are unable to afford dental care via community events.  Both services are very rewarding.

How does your job support our community?
I help keep people pain free and have a healthy mouth.

What would happen if your job did not exist in our community?
People would end up having cavities and likely not have teeth over years of no dental care.  This would make eating very difficult.

More information…
Since Lightning was at Dr. Allan’s office, he decided to have his tooth fixed.  Apparently Lightning ate too much candy over winter break and was not brushing his teeth well.  Dr. Allan numbed Lightning’s tooth and fixed his cavity.  Lightning feels much better now, and learned a better way to brush and floss his teeth.

I can’t wait to see who I intern with next. Until then,
Your thunder friend,

Lignting T. Bear
